Asked by the Canadian dancer Lise Vachon, Marc Vanrunxt created a solo for her. As always Vanrunxt delivers a tailor-made solo. The Canadian dancer Lise Vachon moved to Brussels in 1997 to study at PARTS. After her studies she worked as dancer and assistant with choreographers Riina Saastamoinen, Arco Renz, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Michèle Noiret. As choreographer she created a.o. bliss (2008) and Sliding (2011).
The starting point and title for this piece come from Only, a composition for voice by Morton Feldman that lasts about two minutes. The text is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke from the cycle Sonette an Orpheus, sung a capella by Joan La Barbara.
The solo for Lise Vachon is a balancing act between what is turned inward and deeply hidden on one side and the reverse of that energy in an outward movement on the other side. The intangible and inscrutable are central in the performance.
