New Narratives

Georgia Vardarou

2016

People are born storytellers. We constantly put events into perspective and assemble them into stories. Moreover, we look back on our personal histories as stories. But language cannot grasp everything ... and it is here, according to Georgia Vardarou from Greece, that dance takes over. Abstract movements can also be an effective way of understanding the world.

When Vardarou presented her previous work Phenomena, she created a beautiful performance in which she searched for the expressive power of personal, individual movements. New Narratives goes a step further and occupies the shared space between stories and abstraction, with characters and storylines popping up to provide the audience with an understanding of the events. In addition, there is a continuous flow of movements that appear and disappear.
